First rising to prominence in the 18th Century, Toile de Jouy is a traditional French design that is adored globally for its storytelling of natural, wholesome scenes. The recognisable style depicts single-colour bucolic scenes illustrating scenarios that we would consider simplistic in today’s world, however these were once an elevation of society – a dream.
Our French Toile Bed is an exclusive French Bedroom design that depicts a celebration of women in society, as opposed to an elevation. Meaning freedom in French, our French Toile bed celebrates freedom.
At the heart of the design, which was crafted by Georgia and her in-house illustrator Rachelle, is a visual exemplification of female empowerment; every hand-drawn detail a celebration of women in the 21st Century. Upon close inspection of the design, you will find illustrations of women dancing and drinking wine, alongside a French Bulldog in a classic French blue colour. These are well considered additions, emphasising our freedom to happily exist in a modern society. Alongside this, we have included a camellia flower, inspired by Chanel’s camellia; a nod to Coco Chanel’s contribution to the elevation of women in 20th Century society, in which she used masculine tailoring to create androgynous silhouettes that allowed women to flourish.
A traditional toile with a modern twist, designed to celebrate femininity and love, and embracing our inner softness. A design that will age with elegance.
The bed is hand made in the UK by a family-run company who have specialised in making luxury beds since the 1920s.
Upholstered in a pure cotton panama with hand-turned wooden feet, and blue piped headboard edges.
The French Toile Bed is a timeless design that will grow with you throughout the years, your constant as you change style or homes. Its traditional charm and careful considerations of unapologetic femininity will never go out of style, pairing beautifully with neutral colour palettes or alongside dark blues, greens, and greys.
The wide, flat slats are made from solid redwood from sustainable and managed forests. Once positioned on the side rails, the slats will be held in place by the weight of your mattress, alternatively they can be screwed into position using the pre-drilled pilot holes.
Also available in our house French Toile print are cushions in two sizes, and a tote bag.
