20 YEARS OF FRENCH BEDROOM

Where Our Story Began

A Room of One’s Own

French Bedroom began simply: with a belief that timeless, romantic, and unapologetically feminine furniture deserved a place in our homes. What followed was twenty years of firsts: leaps of faith, unique beds, growing warehouses, awards, babies, brilliant people, and unexpected opportunities. As we celebrate our twentieth birthday, we’re looking back at the moments that made us who we are today.

2006: It Started With a Little Joy

Our first photoshoot in May was followed by our first sale in June, and by July, our kind neighbour’s garage had become French Bedroom’s very first ‘warehouse’.

2008: Ahead of the Click

Our new website allowed customers to buy and pay for furniture online – taking the charm and personality of traditional interiors and home stores into the still-new world of ecommerce.

2018: From Curating to Creating

We launched our first own-brand furniture collection, The Love Story Collection, marking a defining shift: the freedom to design pieces ourselves, without compromise, and design unique and exclusive bedroom furniture.

2021: A Little Regency Romance

After our Versailles Sofa appeared in Bridgerton, its irresistibly romantic world helped inspire The Debutante Bed – which went on to become our bestselling fully upholstered bed.

2023: Becoming French Bedroom

The French Bedroom Company became simply French Bedroom, with a complete rebrand that wasn’t about changing who we were, but expressing it with greater confidence. The same year, we made our debut at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

2026: Coming Home

Twenty years after our first pieces were stored in a neighbour’s garage, we opened our own warehouse – while celebrating our anniversary with new collections, sponsorship of Glyndebourne Opera, a pyjama collaboration with Their Nibs, and appearances in Vogue Magazine.

“From that first little moment of joy in 2006 to our own warehouse, our own collections, and our twentieth birthday in 2026, the thread running through it all has remained remarkably consistent: a belief that our bedroom furniture should bring generational joy.”

By Women, For Women

French Bedroom has always had a distinctly feminine point of view. The women we design for: our customers, whose homes, tastes, and stories have shaped French Bedroom over two decades.

Founded by Georgia Metcalfe in 2006, it began with her belief that romantic, elegant, and unapologetically feminine interiors deserved their own space and twenty years later, women remain at the heart of the world we’ve created. Women who understand that a bedroom isn’t simply somewhere to sleep, but a deeply personal space in which to retreat, restore, dream, and express yourself.

They are the women within our team, bringing their ideas, creativity, and experience to the collections and experiences we create. And they are part of the skilled network behind our products – the makers and artisans whose craft transforms an idea on a page into something that will be loved for generations.

For Georgia, building French Bedroom has also unfolded alongside raising a family. Her daughter arrived in 2009 and her son in 2014, with motherhood and entrepreneurship becoming inevitably intertwined - both involving love, energy, and late nights!

In 2023, after receiving recognition as a Contentsquare Woman of the Year, Georgia launched French Bedroom’s first International Women’s Day mentoring initiative, offering her time and experience freely to other women. Because after twenty years, one thing feels particularly worth celebrating: women don’t simply feature in the French Bedroom story – they are our main characters.
