How Pink Became a Neutral

Find out how pink has gone from our favourite accent colour to our neutral of choice, with inspiration and ideas for a classically modern home.

Neutrals are those well-behaved, co-operative, unobtrusive colours - white, grey, black and beige - they play nicely with their bolder counterparts, while bringing a calming influence to even the raciest of palettes. But bringing its rosy warmth to our interiors for yet another year, with no signs of waning, is pink; a formidable contender for the mantle of 'neutral'. While this may seem like a bold statement, pink's transcendence from on-trend colour du jour to neutral has been a gradual. Originally embraced by Scandinavian designers in blush tones with hints of Elastoplast, paired with greys, natural woods and punchier corals and chartreuse; being adopted by Millennials as their very own colour - featuring as high-end brands' signature colour, such as Acne and Lixir Skincare - finally being given the trendsetters seal of approval when it was announced as one of Pantone's colours of the year in 2016.

We've been musing about the wonders of pink for a few years now, you only need to see our Pink Trend Update blog from 2017 and our Coming Up Roses | Blush Pink for your Home blog from 2016, to explore our love of the softer of the neutrals with on-goingly relevant styling tips and ideas on how to get the look. We've got pink covered with our blush pink velvet bedspreads, soft pink linen cushions, powder pink 100% linen bedding and even a pink velvet luxury French bed.

Pink Partners

Pink has quickly gone from our favourite accent colour to our neutral of choice. Providing a soft feminine edge to on-trend jewel tones such as emerald and navy; thawing cooler, minimalist, white and grey led schemes with its subtle rouge undertones and breaking the brashness of a black interiors.

For a fresh take on pink, we love styling this extra large velvet cushion with this luxurious, emerald-green velvet bedspread on crisp white bed linen.

Pink Walls

For our walls, Farrow & Balls Peignoir is not only the ideal neutral tone for our French bedrooms, due to its subtle greyish tone, it's the ideal 'go with' for more statement making, on-trend Railings, Down Pipe and Hague Blue.

Pink Luxury Furniture

Add softness to an all-white scheme with the gentle blushes of the undulating buttoning of a pink velvet Chesterfield sofa; or lift a dramatic jewel-toned scheme with a powder pink chair and gold side table. We've seen our collection of pink hued furniture expand as our customers have fallen head-over-heels for the colour - with pink sofas and pink velvet luxury beds no longer being considered "girly" or a bit radical, but quite the norm, and very vogue, if interior magazines, Pinterest and Instagram are anything to go by!

Pink Velvet Soft Furnishings

A pink velvet bed might be a bit too much of a leap into the rosy glow just yet, in which case, we've curated a collection of perfectly pink home accessories to bring the colour into any scheme. Sumptuous cushions, luxury velvet throws and classic table lamps a plenty in our favourite neutral.
