Influenced by French culture and tradition, King Gustav III paid tribute to his time travelling to combine Swedish style with French neoclassicism. Characterised by architectural form and symmetry, and adorned with columns and detailed carvings, our Gustavian capsule collection pays tribute to the kinship that exists between French and Swedish furniture design.
Combining all elements of traditional Gustavian design is the Gustavian Chest of Drawers. Featuring three modestly sized drawers, all decorated with horizontal fluting and front stepped corners, this chest is a timeless piece that will be a talking point in the home for decades to come. The drawers are each decorated with two symmetrical bow-design gold metal drawer pulls, alongside a central decorative escutcheon plate. The top of the drawers features a chamfered edge and delicate hand-carved beading; no detail has been spared in the design of this timeless piece of furniture.
The items in the Gustavian Collection take shape following a sequence of production steps, mostly carried out by hand; they reflect the craftsmanship of traditional French designs whilst representing the way we live today. Characterised by its unique design, the Gustavian Chest of Drawers has been expertly constructed with enduring beauty; over time the ash wood will weather to develop a rich patina that only the authenticity of time can evoke.
Our Gustavian Light Collection is made from solid ash wood, a magnificently resilient hardwood. Like all natural wood, ash will gently weather over time, developing a unique patina that only the passing of time can create. The degree and pace of colour change will vary from piece to piece, with factors such as the tree’s age, the season it was felled, time since felling, moisture levels, and exposure to UV light all influencing how the wood seasons and matures.
Ash begins its life in tones ranging from pale cream to light beige. Over time and depending on light exposure - the wood will gradually season and deepen in colour, developing into a warmer, more golden hue and in some cases, a soft honeyed tone. This gentle transformation adds character and individuality to each piece, allowing it to age elegantly and develop a rich, nuanced patina, creating furniture that feels truly timeless, and destined to become heirlooms of the future.
No two pieces are ever quite the same - your ash wood furniture may arrive at any stage in its colour journey and will continue to warm and deepen as the years pass.
