The Finer Details
Made exclusively for French Bedroom.
The Gustavian collection pays tribute to the kinship that exists between French and Swedish furniture designs. Determined to turn Stockholm into 'the Paris of the North', King Gustav III married together French and Swedish furniture designs to create timeless furniture that exudes simplistic elegance.
Inherently Gustavian in style, the Gustavian sofa is the perfect piece for a hallway, conservatory, living room or bedroom. Slim, long legs have been carved with simple detailing up the stem leading to acorn finials that bring an element of visual intrigue. In true Gustavian style, symmetrical carvings have been added to the framework of the sofa which surrounds tailored pale ivory linen upholstery, finished with piped edging. Elements of crest-back-styling complete the sofa, combining style with functionality and comfort.
Characterised by its unique design, this Gustavian sofa has been expertly constructed with enduring beauty; over time the ash wood will weather to develop a rich patina that only the authenticity of time can evoke.
Our Gustavian Light Collection is made from solid ash wood, a magnificently resilient hardwood. Like all natural wood, ash will gently weather over time, developing a unique patina that only the passing of time can create. The degree and pace of colour change will vary from piece to piece, with factors such as the tree’s age, the season it was felled, time since felling, moisture levels, and exposure to UV light all influencing how the wood seasons and matures.
Ash begins its life in tones ranging from pale cream to light beige. Over time and depending on light exposure - the wood will gradually season and deepen in colour, developing into a warmer, more golden hue and in some cases, a soft honeyed tone. This gentle transformation adds character and individuality to each piece, allowing it to age elegantly and develop a rich, nuanced patina, creating furniture that feels truly timeless, and destined to become heirlooms of the future.
No two pieces are ever quite the same - your ash wood furniture may arrive at any stage in its colour journey and will continue to warm and deepen as the years pass.
Best suited to occasional use, this sofa is designed with bedroom living in mind and makes a comfortable place to sit, relax or unwind.
