Designed in Sussex by French Bedroom, the Gustavian Light Wood Bed is part of the Gustavian collection that pays tribute to the kinship visual dialogue between French and Swedish furniture designs.
Inspired by the clean-lined architectural Gustavian form, the bed features geometric profiles defined by a simple silhouette. Crafted from solid ash wood and finished with a mild and light distemper, paired with tailored pale ivory linen upholstery, finished with piped edging. This Gustavian bed offers a sleek, streamlined and contemporary take on the classic and historic Gustavian furniture design.
Adapted from our best-selling Gustavian Light Wood Bed, we redesigned the existing silhouette to add a low footboard option. The hand-carved and carefully considered design details on this French bed create a perfect aesthetic of natural, refined elegance. The siderails and footend feature horizontal hand-carved fluting with stepped inset corners that emulate the same stepped design on the shoulders of the upholstered headboard, with its distinguished acorn corner finials.
This timeless upholstered bed is expertly constructed with enduring beauty; over time the ash wood will weather to develop a rich patina that only the authenticity of time can evoke.
Our Gustavian Light Collection is made from solid ash wood, a magnificently resilient hardwood. Like all natural wood, ash will gently weather over time, developing a unique patina that only the passing of time can create. The degree and pace of colour change will vary from piece to piece, with factors such as the tree’s age, the season it was felled, time since felling, moisture levels, and exposure to UV light all influencing how the wood seasons and matures.
Ash begins its life in tones ranging from pale cream to light beige. Over time and depending on light exposure - the wood will gradually season and deepen in colour, developing into a warmer, more golden hue and in some cases, a soft honeyed tone. This gentle transformation adds character and individuality to each piece, allowing it to age elegantly and develop a rich, nuanced patina, creating furniture that feels truly timeless, and destined to become heirlooms of the future.
No two pieces are ever quite the same - your ash wood furniture may arrive at any stage in its colour journey and will continue to warm and deepen as the years pass.
This ivory linen French bed can either be put together for you upon delivery (choose White Glove Delivery at checkout), alternatively you can assemble your new upholstered bed, which is straightforward and takes approximately 20 minutes.
