The Gustavian collection pays tribute to the kinship that exists between French and Swedish furniture designs. Determined to turn Stockholm into 'the Paris of the North', King Gustav III married French and Swedish furniture design to create timeless furniture that exudes simplistic elegance.
Inherently Gustavian in style is our Gustavian chair; a perfect piece to display independently or paired with the Gustavian Dressing Table. Slim, long legs have been hand-carved, with simple detailing up the stem leading up to acorn finials that add an element of visual intrigue. In true Gustavian style, symmetrical carvings have been added to the body of the chair, which surrounds tailored pale ivory linen upholstery, finished with piped edging. Elements of crest-back-styling complete the chair, combining style with functionality and comfort.
Characterised by its unique design, this Gustavian chair has been expertly constructed with enduring beauty; over time the ash wood will weather to develop a rich patina that only the authenticity of time can evoke.
Our Gustavian Light Collection is made from solid ash wood, a magnificently resilient hardwood. Like all natural wood, ash will gently weather over time, developing a unique patina that only the passing of time can create. The degree and pace of colour change will vary from piece to piece, with factors such as the tree’s age, the season it was felled, time since felling, moisture levels, and exposure to UV light all influencing how the wood seasons and matures.
Ash begins its life in tones ranging from pale cream to light beige. Over time and depending on light exposure - the wood will gradually season and deepen in colour, developing into a warmer, more golden hue and in some cases, a soft honeyed tone. This gentle transformation adds character and individuality to each piece, allowing it to age elegantly and develop a rich, nuanced patina, creating furniture that feels truly timeless, and destined to become heirlooms of the future.
