Rooted in the Sanskrit language, Sundar (pronounced soon-dur) is a Hindi word used to describe a beautiful individual or piece of art that is captivating and elegant. Each Sundar Scallop Runner is hand-crafted in a family factory in India, the workers are paid a fair wage, are able to work in a safe environment and no child labour or discrimination exists in any part of the production. The working methods of production ensure sustainability of materials; any excess from the manufacture is spun on the Charkha (traditional Spinning Wheel) and used again for the next piece.
As with any runner or rug, if you wish to place it on a hard floor you will need an anti-slip mat beneath, it will not only prevent slippage, but preserve the life of the runner too. No chemicals are used in the production of this rug. The rug is dyed using natural vegetables dyes, which aren’t sealed with chemicals, meaning the colour can occasionally transfer onto paler floors.
