How to Style Heritage Cream Bedroom Furniture

Developed as French Bedroom celebrates its 20th anniversary, the collection brings together our experience designing French-inspired furniture with Country Homes & Interiors’ 40 years of visiting and celebrating some of Britain’s most beautiful homes, from cottages and Georgian houses to farmhouses and other characterful period properties.
Whilst shooting our Avenue d’Amour collection, we styled the same warm neutral furniture in several different ways. From quiet cream bedrooms to blush-pink walls, country florals and touches of terracotta, these are some of our favourite ways to style cream bedroom furniture - and how to recreate them in your own home.
Introducing the Avenue d’Amour Collection
Avenue d’Amour was created at a particularly special moment for French Bedroom, as we celebrate 20 years of designing furniture for thoughtful, characterful homes.
To mark the occasion, we worked with Country Homes & Interiors to reimagine one of our signature collections for homes today. They brought more than four decades of visiting and celebrating Britain’s beautiful country homes, while we brought our love of French furniture, considered proportions, beautiful finishes and pieces designed to be lived with and loved for years to come.
Together, we explored how classic French furniture could feel at home in British interiors today, from cosy country cottages and Georgian houses to period properties and more contemporary country homes.
The result is Avenue d’Amour, a collection with a quiet, muted beauty that comes through in its shape, craftsmanship and carefully considered features. It feels full of character without being overly ornate, allowing the furniture to sit comfortably within a room while still giving you plenty to notice when you look a little closer.
What Defines the Avenue d’Amour Look?
At the centre of the collection is its soft oatmeal painted finish. Warmer than bright white and more nuanced than a straightforward beige, the colour gives the versatility of cream bedroom furniture while bringing greater depth to a room. It can sit quietly among warm whites and natural fabrics or provide a softer contrast against colour and pattern, making oatmeal a particularly versatile choice for painted bedroom furniture.
Look more closely and the collection’s architectural influences begin to reveal themselves. Fluted sections appear across drawer fronts and the footboard of the wooden bed, while inset panels, shaped mouldings, circular motifs, dark round handles and tapered legs create a sense of continuity throughout the range. 5 Ways We've Styled Avenue d'Amour
1. Create a Tonal Cream and Neutral Bedroom
If you want your bedroom to feel calm and restful, begin by keeping the palette close to the oatmeal colour of the furniture.
In our neutral Avenue d’Amour bedroom, the painted wooden bed is surrounded by warm white bedding, oatmeal textiles, natural linen curtains and cream woven rugs. There is very little strong colour contrast; instead, the interest comes from different materials and surfaces.
The key when styling neutral bedroom furniture is to create depth without relying on contrast. Mix smooth painted furniture with softer fabrics, woven textures and gently patterned or quilted textiles so the room feels layered and inviting rather than all one note.

Neutral furniture provides a composed foundation for a more expressive scheme. When styling the Avenue d’Amour collection, we had oatmeal painted furniture sitting alongside textured lace quilts, botanical artwork, ruffled cushions, embroidered textiles, vintage inspired ceramics and woven cane. By keeping the larger pieces of furniture restrained, you can be more confident with adding pattern elsewhere in the room without the overall scheme feeling too busy.
For the layered feel of a country house bedroom, begin with one patterned textile that you are particularly drawn to, whether that is a floral quilt, cushion or rug, and allow its colours to inform the rest of the scheme. Rather than matching patterns precisely, choose two or three tones to repeat more subtly throughout the room. This creates a sense of cohesion while retaining the more collected quality that gives country interiors their charm.
Consider scale as carefully as colour when bringing several patterns together. A densely patterned floral bedspread can be balanced with larger motifs and areas of plain fabric, such as crisp or softly ruffled bedding.
